Ahh the here and now...

it's 3:00 am, I'm tired as hell, and what's on my mind? AJAX. That web technology that seems to be everywhere, and yet the more I work with it the more a Donkey Show seems like a "logical" thing. Whoever looked at internet Exlorer 5-6 and said "DAMN, we should use this to write apps in" should be drug out in the parking lot and flogged with a wet pasta of some sort.

Things that have been occupying me...
  1. World of Warcraft (Yes, I still play it 4 years later)
  2. Warsow
  3. MochaUI/MooTools
  4. Lastly Relearning GTK/QE Radiant.
That's about it, someday I may actually start to blog more than once every 9 months... maybe...

Oh the fun!

Well it's been a while I must say, I've been out of it for a while. The large ground breaking events since my list dribble about WoW.
  1. Got married to my longtime Sweetheart on July 15th. 2006
  2. Lost our chance to buy a condo, which we've since come to be more happy about.
  3. In November we discovered we will be parents com July.
  4. On February thirteenth learned that we are almost certainly Having a little boy.

I'll post more when I'm not at work... :)

As the WoW Turns....

World of Warcraft

Well, I've now been playing World of Warcraft for about 1.5 years. Things as of late of gotten a little interesting. The 1.10 patch that was recently rolled out Has sort of turned my little world upside down. As of late frustrations have been a little high for both myself and my guildmates. With the major level 60 "starter instances" all dropping 5 people from the max group size, Stratholme, Scholomance and Blackrock Depths have all gone to five man runs, while all of Blackrock spire is now 10.

The problems that are arising are not directly because of the "code" change... but more of a mental one, here is how it seems to be working out. Most of the people who are 60 and running the instances right now have been running them for quite some time in higher capacity groups. This has made most complacent in these instances and used to "zerging" them. In the 5 man configuration zerging such an instance is much more difficult. At some level be it conscious or subconsciously people are used to just running through these instances in the previous manner, where as right now re-training yourself in these instances seems to be what is required, but most aren't seeming to do so, or recognize the need to do so.

Now the largest complaint as of right now on my side of this whole 1.10 thing is the 45 minute Baron run needed to complete a new quest (one which upgrades your level 60 armor). This run is highly possible, I've managed to complete it once while helping a friend, now that I need to do it myself it seems a little more difficult. (read: I spent close to 6 hours trying and was less than successful) I spent some time in the shower contemplating what we did wrong in our runs... I've found a few "places" for improvement...

  1. Agro-management, in this run you live and die by how well you "avoid the mob's radar"
  2. know your role, in all honesty this run takes more pre-instance planning than a MC run
  3. be ready to die, This is especially important with the healers in the group paladin's should be ready to drop "DI" on the priest once you get past Maleki... it will save you time.

[Group listing]

This is probably the most "well rounded" group for the run, I'm not saying it is the only group, just the best...

  • Warrior, Protection
  • Priest, Holy/Disp
  • Mage, any spec will do, though frost saved me a few times.
  • Paladin, will be playing Back up healer and should be ready as such
  • DPS class, in my case Rogue, this is necessary for dropping bosses ASAP.

That’s about it for now... I'll post more ramblings as time permits

The end of my first quarter century....

Well it's quickly approaching, the point where my mortal body hits the quarter century mark. Thats right on friday August 19, 2005 I will be 25 years old. Hopefully between now and then I'll be able to kick the cold that all but ruined the past weekend.

In other news I've been playing with Code::Blocks and MinGW a little bit over the weekend and I definately see it as a cheap alternative to MSVC++/MSVS. Granted you don't have the MSDN there in the IDE, but I have Firefox... and the ability to browse the MSDN so I think I'll be fine. Over the next few days I'm going to start and try to develop so Win32/SDL/OpenGL/DirectX apps and see how it goes. I'll post as I know more.
